In 1983 Terry quit The Fun Boy Three and in time
formed The Colour Field with Toby Lyons and Karl Shale and by 1986 drummer
Gary Dwyer. They released their first single The Colour Field in 1984 complete
with a much more conservative haircut and richer sound. Virgins and Philistines
was the first album released followed by the sharply contrasting Deception
released after Toby Lyons had quit the band. Singles: The Colour Field, Take,
Thinking of you, Castles in the air, Things could be beautiful, Running away,
She.
A music reviewer once described the Colour
Field in the following way:
'This lot have absolutely nothing going for them. No sense of humour. No glamour. No good melodies. No danceable rhythms. No excitement. No controversy. No emotion. Nothing whatsoever. They are, in short, ruddy awful'

Behind each reason
there's a lie
Behind each answer lies a cheat
Well you can take me for a ride
But only if I get the window seat

With a review like that it is plainly obvious that the Colour Field are going to be a brilliant band, and they are. The album has brilliant lyrics coupled with great rhythms and rich music. It is quite clear the reviewer needed to sort out the battery in his hearing aid.
What is in actual fact 'ruddy awful' is the fact that Virgins and Philistines in not currently commercially available in the UK and is a bugger to get hold of. It can fetch in excess of £50.00 plus on ebay. Virgins and Philistines is a really timeless album in places such as Margaret A Roches Hammond Song and Virgins and Philistines. it is well worth a fight to get hold of it.
